Role and Responsibilities:

The Bakery Clerk is responsible for supporting daily bakery operations by preparing, packaging, and presenting fresh baked goods. This role emphasizes food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Key responsibilities include:

• Customer Service (60%): Create a welcoming environment that enhances customer loyalty; maintain product freshness and availability; provide product information, samples, and recommendations; fulfill special orders accurately and promptly.
• Leadership (20%): Promote teamwork, trust, and open communication; ensure adherence to company policies and state/federal regulations.
• Financial (10%): Track inventory and report discrepancies; inspect and rotate products for freshness; prepare, label, package, and display baked goods; use production planning tools to minimize waste; maintain accurate temperature logs and food safety records.
• Compliance & Safety (10%): Follow food safety and sanitation standards; comply with USDA, DOA, and COOL labeling requirements; execute recalls and withdrawals appropriately; report safety risks, incidents, or injuries; ensure safe use of bakery equipment and PPE; assist in addressing unsafe equipment.

Required Skills and Experience:

• At least 18 years of age.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to safely operate bakery equipment such as slicers, ovens, scales, knives, and pricing tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Proficiency in Spanish.
• 0–3 years of experience in retail, bakery, or food service.
• Integrity, reliability, and a collaborative attitude.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 35 lbs, occasional climbing (up to 10 ft), pulling up to 250 lbs with carts/pallet jacks, repetitive hand/foot movements, and sensory abilities including sight, hearing, and smell.
• Work Conditions: Exposure to hot, cold, and humid environments; slippery floors; loud noise; sharp tools; hazardous equipment; occasional fumes, chemicals, dust, and allergens.

Tools & Equipment:

• General: Cleaning supplies, pricing guns, scales, scanners, pallet jacks, shopping carts.
• Department-Specific: Slicers, ovens, stoves, fryers, proofer, steamers, rotisserie, wrapping equipment.
• Preferred: Baler/compactor, ladders, wire cutters, box cutters.
• PPE: Goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, oven mitts, fryer gloves, back brace.

Work Schedule:

• Varied shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Occasional travel; no overnight stays required.
