Responsibilities of Grocery Department Manager:

• Properly manage the handling of goods, rotate stock to uphold freshness, and routinely inspect expiration dates
• Enhance profitability and handle workforce expenses effectively by continuously monitoring and refining operations to mitigate losses from shrinkage, damage, and theft
• Support in preparing the store for the physical inventory count
• Monitor the unloading of trucks from our distribution centers, confirming the contents of deliveries by comparing them with invoices, recording any shortages or surpluses, and communicating this information to the relevant supplier
• Oversee the ordering procedures, compliance measures, sanitation protocols, back-room stock management, and safety precautions within the department
• Encourage and assess team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one developmental talks, and provide suggestions for merit increments as part of the bi-annual performance appraisal process.
• Make it a habit to be present and contribute during store meetings.
• Make collective choices with the Store Manager concerning recruitment, employment, and promotion/transfer determinations.
• Exercise independent decision-making skills when dealing with team member issues.
• Enforce corrective actions and document them as necessary, which could involve working alongside business and HR collaborators to address performance concerns through strategies like coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination if deemed appropriate.
• Optimize operational performance by establishing and fine-tuning schedules and employee staffing.
• Transmit expectations, regulations, revisions in policies, and insights on products to team members.
• Guide a team in working together to deliver the best quality products, highest standard of service, and ultimate customer satisfaction.
• Act as a Key Carrier for the store and assume the duties of a Manager on Duty when the situation calls for it.

Qualifications of Grocery Department Manager:

• To qualify for this role, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of one year of managerial or supervisory experience. This experience should include managing a department or team within a multi-department operation in fields like retail, hospitality, or service
• Exhibit strong communication aptitude, encompassing both verbal and written competencies, and the skill to actively participate in team settings by taking and providing guidance
• Exhibit a cheerful and sociable manner along with a favorable attitude and the skill to engage effectively with our clients
• Showcase confirmed leadership skills for constructing, motivating, and retaining team members, alongside a practical grasp of employee assessments, profit reports, weekly sales statistics, and financial aspirations
• Prioritize meticulousness, analytical thinking, and proficiency in problem-solving
• Ensure that Food Safety certification is acquired and sustained while meeting the requirements outlined by federal, state, and company guidelines for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
• Showing strong organizational and planning competencies; skilled in arranging priorities and multitasking efficiently
• Moving milk trays with a maximum weight of 60 lbs. between levels 9 to 62 vertically needs to be done for up to 25 hours
• You will need to transport boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from level 5 to level 34, either vertically or horizontally, covering a distance up to 5 feet, for a total of 25 hours, without utilizing any mechanical assistance
• Repetitive squatting/kneeling/bending to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours is expected
• Demonstrating the aptitude to adjust to a fluctuating schedule that evolves with business requirements, such as nights, weekends, and holidays, is vital.
• Have a grasp of staff files, margin updates, weekly income statistics, and financial objectives.
• Display an extroverted and amiable attitude, along with a favorable demeanor towards both teammates and customers.
