Role and Responsibilities:
As a Customer Service Checkout Associate, you will play an important role in protecting company assets while delivering a smooth and positive customer experience. You will monitor self-checkout activity, assist customers as needed, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and friendly environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Observe self-checkout stations to identify irregular or suspicious transactions.
- Ensure items are scanned and bagged correctly, verifying purchases when necessary.
- Respond promptly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts and transaction issues.
- Report theft, equipment malfunctions, or suspicious behavior to store leadership immediately.
- Provide courteous, timely assistance to customers using self-checkout lanes.
- Educate customers on self-checkout procedures to reduce errors and wait times.
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Encourage customers to use self-checkout when appropriate.
- Keep the self-checkout area stocked with supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and cleaning materials.
- Clean and sanitize checkout equipment and surrounding areas as needed.
- Assist with collecting and returning shopping carts when required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, professional approach.
- Basic computer skills to complete online training and operate POS systems.
- Clear communication skills in English; bilingual ability is a plus.
- Ability to follow policies and instructions accurately.
- Dependable with a high level of integrity.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry up to 20 lbs, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing up to 4 feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Prior retail or customer service experience is a plus.
