Role and Responsibilities:
The Manager of the Deli & Bakery oversees the daily operations of both departments, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with company standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Customer Experience & Service: Create a welcoming, customer-first environment, ensuring a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Maintain product availability, freshness, and quality, assist with recommendations, and fulfill special orders.
- Department Operations & Merchandising: Oversee product stocking, rotation, and merchandising. Manage inventory levels, forecast needs, and order supplies. Implement merchandising plans to maximize sales and minimize shrink. Ensure proper storage and handling according to safety standards.
- Team Leadership & Development: Supervise, train, and coach associates. Promote teamwork, set performance goals, and align schedules with customer demand. Ensure associates are trained on equipment, product handling, and service.
- Financial Management & Reporting: Meet sales targets, manage shrink, and complete administrative tasks such as scheduling and ordering. Track and analyze data to support decision-making and improve sales performance.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to food safety standards and health regulations. Conduct safety inspections, report unsafe conditions, and comply with local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Additional Duties: Perform other job-related tasks as assigned, promoting safety and best practices within the department.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3-6 years of supervisory experience, with 1-5 years of relevant deli/bakery experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate deli and bakery equipment (slicers, fryers, ovens, etc.).
- Basic cake decorating and baking skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management and production planning tools.
- Ability to manage time effectively and perform under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Food Safety Certification (or ability to obtain within 180 days).
- High standard of integrity and reliability.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on coaching and development.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand, walk, reach overhead, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of slicers, knives, and other deli/bakery tools.
- Exposure to cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid conditions.
- Occasional exposure to loud noise, skin irritants, and hazardous equipment.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings (3-4 per week).
- Occasional travel, no overnight stays required.
